Introduction to MetaQuotes MT5 Proxy Server

This article will help system admins, IT managers and Owners of Forex brokers to understand what is MT5 Proxy and why it is essential for a best performing and secure trading environment.

This article will help system admins, IT managers and Owners of Forex brokers to understand what is MT5 Proxy and why it is essential for a best performing and secure trading environment.

What is MT5?

MetaTrader 5 is a platform developed by MetaQuotes for trading of Forex, Stocks and Futures. It is among the most popular trading platforms, translated in 31 languages. It has native applications for Windows environments, Android and iOS. Emulations are also available for using it in MacOS and Linux Operating systems.

The MT5 platform is available in three license types: Entry, Standard and Enterprise – each of them comes with specific set of components and limitations on the number of real accounts. A broker can start with the Entry license and upgrade on the go.

What is a Proxy Server and Why Is Needed

A Proxy server is an intermediate computer (virtual or dedicated server) that resides between the trader’s PC and the broker’s trading server.

Network Diagram explaining how MT5 Proxy Server works

A proxy server offers two significant benefits for a Forex business, which therefore reflect a trader’s experience:

Increased Security for MT5 Platform

By completing the standard installation of your MT5 platform on a Dedicated server, you may now start accepting clients who can get real accounts created on your MT5 platform. Each of your traders will be given a hostname or IP address (that of the MT5 trading server) and along with their credentials, they can connect using their MT5 trading terminal.

A Proxy server will act as an intermediate between your clients’ trading terminals and the trading server which means your MT5 server will only be receiving requests from the Proxy server. For example, if you have 2,000 active traders, these will authenticate and start sending order requests to the Proxy server, not the MT5 server directly.

This ‘triangle’ communication enhances the MT5 server’s security as it ‘forbids’ end users from directly connecting on the server’s listening ports. Any vulnerabilities found on your MT5 Server (e.g. outdated Operating System) will be less exposed to the public, in the case a Proxy server is installed.

Load Balancing and Improved Performance

Whilst a Broker may choose not to have a proxy server during the early days of operation, it will become a necessity when then number of real accounts and trading volume increases. Additionally, if you are targeting traders from different areas in the world, then you may decide to deploy Proxy servers near regions where most of your customers are located.

For example, your main MT5 platform server may be hosted in London and you may have traders located in Cyprus, Germany and Malaysia. In this case it would be wise to setup a Proxy Server in Europe (e.g. London or Amsterdam) and one in Asia (e.g. Singapore). As a result, orders coming from Malaysia will be sent to your London MT5 server through the Singapore Proxy. At the same time, your Proxy server in Europe will be handling requests from the European traders.

The idea of Load Balancing in Forex trading follows the basic concepts and benefits of Load Balancing and High Availability in an infrastructure environment. Learn more about Load Balancing Solutions.

Minimum Hardware Requirements for MT5 Proxy Server

An MT5 Proxy Server can run as a Virtual machine (VPS) or a Dedicated Server. The minimum specifications your server should have are:

  • 2 vCPU
  • 4GB RAM
  • 60GB Disk Space
  • Windows Server 2016

How to Deploy Proxy Servers Around the World

Top 5 Benefits of Managed Server Hosting

Managing the hosting aspect of your online business can be time consuming and you will soon realize it requires expertise and dedicated effort. In this article we will explain what Managed Hosting is and what are the benefits for a business like yours.

Running a business in 2021 is not an easy task as it used to be years back. Regardless of what your company’s activities are, taking care of its online presence is essential in order to cope with the competition.

A typical agenda of a business owner is to oversee operations, plan a strategy for future growth and, of course, delegate tasks to the right people.

A company’s digital infrastructure in 2021 varies from a simple website hosting space to multiple servers, load balancers and even firewalls for protection from cyber threats. Managing the hosting aspect of your online business can be time consuming and you will soon realize it requires expertise and dedicated effort.

One of the rising sectors within the Data Centers & IT industries is that of Managed Hosting services which is expected to reach $257.84 billion by 2022. In this article we will explain what Managed Hosting is and what are the benefits for a business like yours.

What is Managed Hosting

Managed Hosting is the service where your hosting provider takes responsibility of your website’s hosting, dedicated servers or even the whole network infrastructure of your business. Along with managed services, a hosting provider will guarantee an uptime SLA for your web hosting and servers. Should the SLA is not met you may be entitled to reimbursement, depending of course on the terms of your Managed Services Agreement.

Benefits of Managed Server Hosting

Let’s take a look at the top 5 benefits Managed Hosting has to offer to your business.

  1. Low Operating Costs
  2. Proactive Monitoring
  3. Dedicated Engineer
  4. Backup Management
  5. Ongoing Server Administration

Low Operating Costs

Businesses that have opted in for Managed hosting services benefit from huge cost savings. Regardless of the size and type of your digital infrastructure, you will soon realize that you need at least one dedicated person to be responsible for the well-being of your website and servers.

If you are the business and you come from a technical background, you may be capable of handling the server administration by yourself. However, in case of a crisis or disaster, you will need to focus on the operational and customer care aspect of your business, rather than troubleshooting the problem.

With managed hosting, you get everything done by an external team of experts at a fraction of the price you would pay an in-house engineer and, additionally, you get peace of mind knowing that your servers are being taken care of and your business won’t lose money due to server related issues.

Proactive Monitoring

You know something is wrong when you realize your website or servers are down. At that moment, your business have already started losing customers and money. Proactive monitoring is when a suite of tools are in place to monitor every aspect of your digital infrastructure. Disks Health check, CPU Load and Bandwidth Traffic monitoring are 3 of the main monitoring services that hosting providers set in place. Being proactive means that you increase the chances to prevent a problem from being occurred.

A managed hosting services provider can offer you 24×7 monitoring and intervention prevent or resolve outages before they cause a severe impact to your business.

Dedicated Engineer

One of the major benefits of Managed Hosting is that you get a dedicated engineer who knows your infrastructure and network topology inside-out. This is of great value in cases when you need to consult with your hosting provider about optimization and upgrades of your current setup. In addition, with a dedicated engineer you get to talk to one person instead of a whole support team. This means faster communication with your hosting provider and resolution of your questions or issues in a timely manner.

Backup Management

Business owners usually neglect the value of backup service until a disaster occurs. Backup management is a service offered under Managed Hosting and it includes the setup of necessary backups. It can be entire machine backup for Virtual or Dedicated Servers, database backups or simple files/folders backup.

In addition to the data backup selection, the frequency of the backups will be configured as well as the retention period. Moreover, your hosting provider will ensure the validity and integrity of the backups so, in case a disaster occurs, the backups can be successfully restored.

Ongoing Server Administration

When it comes to Cloud or Dedicated servers it is important to know that your servers are managed properly and the Operating System is up to date to protect it from cyber threats and zero-day vulnerabilities. Some hosting providers will go a step further and provide more than OS updates; from database administration to security hardening of the server.

Let’s Talk About Your Managed Server Hosting Needs

NetShop ISP can take the hassle of managing a single or multiple servers. Our motto is “Focus on managing your business, not your servers” as we have a dedicated team of Windows, Linux and Networking engineers who can help you with the design, implementation and on-going administration of your whole online infrastructure.

How To Assign Dedicated IPs to OpenVPN Accounts on pfSense

In this article we will explain in clear, easy steps how you can assign multiple IP address in pfSense Firewall and assign them to one or more OpenVPN accounts.

As a managed hosting provider, NetShop ISP offers Managed Firewall service for customers who utilize pfSense for Network routing, VPN, Firewall management and Traffic monitoring needs.

One of the most frequent requests we receive is to provide OpenVPN accounts to a company’s employees with a static/dedicated IP address on one or more VPN accounts.

The documentation found online is quite poor for this particular implementation as it involves in-depth knowledge and expertise on both the OpenVPN and pfSense services.

In this article we will explain in clear, easy steps how you can assign multiple IP address in pfSense and assign them to one or more OpenVPN accounts.

The pfSense version used in this article’s example is 2.5.0-RELEASE (amd64) and we tested it on one a UK VPS server.

Prerequisites

Let’s get to work now.

Steps to Assign Multiple IPs in OpenVPN Accounts

Step 1: Add Virtual IPs

Assuming your Server has been assigned with multiple IPs, the first step is to add them as Virtual IPs from the pfSense GUI.

From the top menu click Firewall > Virtual IPs and then click the green “Add” button.

In the next page, please follow the same settings as shown in the screenshot below. The IP address is one of the additional IPs assigned on your server which you will eventually want to assign in a specific OpenVPN account.

When done, press Save at the bottom of the page.

The new Virtual IP has been added. Now proceed to Apply the Changes.

Step 2 – Create OpenVPN User

At this point we will create a new user for whom, later in this tutorial, we will assign a dedicated IP address.

From the top menu click System > User Manager and then click the “Add” button

The important setting when creating a new user, is the Certificate option. Check the box to ensure the new user will be associated with a dedicated Certificate on server-side.

Step 3 – Assign Static Local IP (Tunnel Network)

Upon creating successfully a new User (Step 2) we must now assign a static Tunnel Network IP. We assume you have already created the tunnel network when installing the OpenVPN Service. In our example, the tunnel network is 10.101.1.0/24.

To proceed with the local IP assignment, navigate to VPN > OpenVPN

From the tabs click “Client Specific Overrides” and then click the “Add” button.

The Common Name must match exactly the username of the respective user. Then, as a good practice, add the tunnel network IP in the description field so you can quickly identify the IPs assigned to each user.

Under the Client Settings / Advanced section, add the command ifconfig-push 10.101.1.31 255.255.255.0. Remember that in this example we are using the IP 10.101.1.31 for our new OpenVPN user Spyros2.

Step 4 – Setup 1:1 NAT Rule

So far, we have created the OpenVPN Account for our user and assigned a static IP address for the tunnel network. Now it’s time to setup a 1:1 NAT rule for the tunnel’s local IP address translation into one of our public IP Addresses.

From the top menu go to Firewall > NAT

Click the 1:1 tab and then click the “Add’ button

Add the Public IP address (the one you have added as Virtual IP in Step 1) as the External subnet IP.

Then, under the Internal IP field add the Tunnel Network IP used in Client Overrides in Step 3. Then press Save.

We are done with assigning a static IP address to the OpenVPN user! Now you can export the OpenVPN certificate for your user who can start browsing the Internet using the newly assigned Public IP address.

Facing Issues? Opt for a Fully Managed Firewall

NetShop ISP offers Virtual and Hardware Firewalls based on pfSense. Moreover you may opt for a Fully Managed Firewall service so you can focus on your core business while we take care of the following aspects of your Firewall:

  • pfSense Setup
  • Public and Private Network Configuration
  • High-Availability and pfSense Failover Setup (CARP)
  • Additional Services Installation (OpenVPN, Squid, etc)
  • Security Hardening
  • Network Administration
  • pfSense Backup Management

‘Why use WordPress?’ is one of the most common questions asked by companies and individuals just starting out with their new website, and if you’re reading this, you’re probably wondering the same thing too. In this article we’ll break down 5 of the biggest benefits of using WordPress and why it might be the best option to build and manage your website.

What is a Content Delivery Network?

CDN services are becoming increasingly popular, with sites that experience a high volume of traffic, like Netflix and Amazon using CDNs to ensure low latency and high content delivery speeds – ultimately improving the user experience.

A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is used to solve one really important issue, which a lot of us might not even think too much about. So what is a CDN? A CDN is a network of geographically dispersed servers that work together to reduce web page content loading delays.

So whatever type of content you’re consuming online, a CDN has probably been used to ensure it loads quickly for you. This network of highly-distributed servers reduces latency and improves performance by decreasing the distance between the server and the user.

Why is a CDN important

As we spend more time online, using the internet for practically everything, we’ve also become incredibly impatient. We’ve all experienced the irritation of videos buffering and webpages not loading quick enough, and that’s exactly what a CDN combats.

CDN services are becoming increasingly popular, with sites that experience a high volume of traffic, like Netflix and Amazon using CDNs to ensure low latency and high content delivery speeds – ultimately improving the user experience.

How does a CDN work

A CDN shouldn’t be confused with a dedicated server, or any other form of web hosting and doesn’t eliminate the need for web hosting services. A CDN is used in addition to hosting in order to enhance the performance and efficiency of your website.

CDN’s basically store a replicated, or cached, version of website content in multiple points of presence (PoPs) all around the world, so that users can access it from the PoP that is located within the closest proximity to them. So if you’re trying to access content in Cyprus, let’s say, you won’t have to wait for it to travel from a server based in Los Angeles.

Benefits of a CDN

Performance

As we’ve mentioned, one of the biggest benefits of using a CDN is the significant improvement in performance for the user. For businesses with worldwide users, outside of just one specific geographic location, a CDN is now essential.

High performance and speed has come to be expected and anything less can be detrimental to businesses. After all, you wouldn’t continue to pay for your Netflix subscription if all you got was buffering and compromised quality.

Security

A CDN is not only used to enhance performance, it’s also used as additional security. If your website is targeted by DDoS attacks or other security breaches, which can cause a serious impact and huge losses for a business, a CDN safeguards the source by redistributing the traffic to other data centres.

Using a CDN provides extra peace of mind, and ensures that in the event of such an attack, your website stays online. This is especially important for eCommerce, online casinos and other iGaming sites that are typically vulnerable to these attacks.

Availability

As a website owner you want your content to be readily available to your users all of the time. A CDN ensures that your website is constantly available, even if you’re experiencing issues with your server, by using the cached content.

SEO

As we know Google has a whole bunch of ranking factors, and one of those is how quickly a website loads. An improvement in page loading speeds, will also improve your SEO – making your website more visible and higher ranking on the search engine results page.

Overall, the performance and security of your website directly impacts the potential of your business. A CDN ultimately helps your business successfully reach a wider global market. With all of these benefits, a CDN is actually relatively cheap too!

Best Offshore Hosting Services in 2021

Offshore hosting has become an increasingly popular choice for website and business owners for a range of reasons that vary from anonymity, to censorship and privacy concerns. In this article we’ll take a look at the best offshore hosting services in 2021 and why offshore hosting could be beneficial for you.

Your choice of hosting location can directly affect your website’s potential and so it’s definitely something that should be given some thought. Regardless of whether you opt for shared hosting, VPS hosting, a dedicated server or colocation services, location matters all the same.

With that being said, offshore hosting has become an increasingly popular choice for website and business owners for a range of reasons that vary from anonymity, to censorship and privacy concerns. In this article we’ll take a look at the best offshore hosting services in 2021 and why offshore hosting could be beneficial for you.

What is offshore hosting

By definition, offshore hosting is the act of hosting your website in any location other than your country of residence or country where you run your business operations. By opting for hosting services at a data center in another country, you are effectively hosting offshore.

Generally speaking, those who opt for offshore hosting have a specific reason for doing so, and so finding the best offshore hosting provider is important.

Best offshore hosting services

There are quite a few factors that distinguish a good offshore hosting provider, so let’s take a look at the top three things you need to consider.

Location

Obviously if you’re looking into offshore hosting, you want to be sure that the location you choose offers the specific benefits that you’re seeking. For example, if your prime concern is privacy, you might want to host your website in the Netherlands, or if you’re looking for offshore business opportunities, Cyprus could be ideal. Whatever the reason is, be sure that it aligns with the location that you decide on.

NetShop ISP has a strong global presence with 15 data centers located in 7 different countries, so you’ll be certain to find the optimal location to meet your requirements.

Privacy

One of the most common reasons that website owners tend to opt for offshore hosting is for privacy and anonymity purposes. Every country has different laws and regulations surrounding data confidentiality so it’s important to opt for an offshore hosting provider that will understand your privacy concerns.

We take our clients’ desire to remain anonymous seriously with data centers located in countries where DMCA content is highly tolerated and laws are in favour of privacy. We also offer our clients the option to pay for their hosting services with cryptocurrencies like BitCoin and Ethereum.

Cost-effective

Of course, wherever you choose to host your website needs to be in line with your budget, with many website owners opting for offshore hosting purely because it’s cheaper than their country of residence.

At NetShop ISP, we offer a range of plans to suit all budgets and requirements, with additional discounts offered for annual billing cycles and multiple payment options available.

How to Choose the Best VPS Hosting in Cyprus

Finding the best VPS hosting may seem like a daunting task, so we’ve comprised a list of what you need to consider when choosing your Cyprus VPS hosting.

Whether you’re just starting out with your new website, are looking to upgrade to a VPS or change hosting provider, there are some factors you need to take into consideration in order for your website to run smoothly. Finding the best VPS hosting may seem like a daunting task, so we’ve comprised a list of what you need to consider when choosing your Cyprus VPS hosting.

What is a VPS

First off, let’s take a look at what exactly a VPS is. Described as the median point between shared hosting and dedicated server hosting, a VPS has become an extremely popular form of hosting. A VPS uses virtualization technology to separate one physical server into multiple virtual servers, so users can benefit from a dedicated server environment at a fraction of the price. VPS hosting offers a highly secure and easily scalable solution for users growing their website and business.

Why Cyprus VPS Hosting

If you’re looking to host your website offshore, we’re pretty sure you already know that Cyprus is quite easily one of the most popular hosting locations. Not only is Cyprus extremely secure and at low risk of natural disasters that could potentially affect business continuity, the island also boasts an attractive taxation system making it ideal for companies seeking to operate offshore. Recognized as a global financial centre, Cyprus’ corporate tax rates are amongst the lowest in the EU at just 12.5% with non-resident companies also being exempt from local taxation.

Geographically speaking, Cyprus is ideally situated at the centre of the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), making it a prime location for business activities in the region, along with access to the European Union’s various trade treaties.

So, we’ve covered why Cyprus VPS hosting is a great choice, let’s look at some of the things to consider when choosing a Cyprus VPS hosting provider.

Best Cyprus VPS hosting provider

Performance

Let’s be honest, a website that underperforms is not going to do well – and this is a reflection of your hosting provider. Downtime and slow connection speeds can be the downfall of your online business so ensure that your hosting provider offers a comprehensive uptime SLA and fast speeds, even when your website is experiencing high traffic volumes.

At NetShop ISP, we guarantee 99.9% uptime and 1Gpbs network speed so you never need to worry about missing out on potential users, even when your website gets busy.

Support

Up there with one of the main things you need to look out for is the level of customer support you can expect to receive from your hosting provider. Having a reliable, highly-trained team of experts to rely on is extremely valuable when you need assistance.

NetShop provides around-the-clock Expert Support through a variety of communication channels, any time of the day.

Price

Opting for a hosting provider that can offer a high valued service at a reasonable price is obviously important to your budget, so finding a provider who offers multiple VPS plans at a range of prices can help when you’re just getting set-up.

Not only are NetShop’s prices amongst the most competitive on the market, we also offer a huge 20% discount on our Cyprus VPS plans for customers who opt to pay annually.

How To Detect Failed Hard Disks in Linux Server using StorCLI (former MegaCLI)

In this article we introduce you to StorCLI, one of the best tools that exist out there that can help you administer your RAID Controller and check the health of both physical and logical disks while the server is online.

A common nightmare for system administrators is when a hard disk fail which puts the RAID array in degraded mode. Depending on the number of HDDs installed and the RAID configuration of your server, the data reside on your server is at risk and therefore prompt action is required to prevent downtime and data loss.

In this article we introduce you to StorCLI, one of the best tools that exist out there that can help you administer your RAID Controller and check the health of both physical and logical disks while the server is online.

What is StorCLI

The Storage Command Line Tool (StorCLI) is the successor of the MegaCLI software. It is used to manage and control RAID Controllers using Command line tools. It works on MegaRAID®, Software RAID (SWR), and Initiator-Target (IT) controllers.

StorCLI Operating Systems Compatibility

The following is a list of the Operating Systems distributions and versions that can work with StorCLI tool.

  • Windows 8/10
  • Windows Server 2012 / 2012 R2
  • Windows Server 2016
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.6/6.7/6.8/7.0/7.1/7.2/7.3/7.4
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11/12

How To Install StorCLI on Linux

For the purpose of this article we will follow the steps and commands on a Linux CentOS 7 server.

Step 1: Download StorCLI

The latest version of StorCLI can be downloaded for free from the Intel website.

Login as root on your Linux server and type the following command:

wget https://downloadmirror.intel.com/30394/eng/StorCLI_007.1513.0000.0000.zip

If ‘wget’ is not installed you can do so like this:

yum install wget

Step 2: Unzip & Install StorCLI RPM File

As soon as the zip file has finished downloading, unzip it using the following command:

unzip StorCLI_007.1513.0000.0000.zip

If ‘unzip’ is not installed, you can do so with the following command:

yum install unzip

At this point we need to enter the unzipped folder and locate the file storcli-007.1513.0000.0000-1.noarch.rpm under the ‘Linux’ sub-folder, as follows:

cd ~/StorCLI_007.1513.0000.0000/Linux

Now use the following command to install StorCLI:

rpm -ivh storcli-007.1513.0000.0000-1.noarch.rpm

Congratulations! StorCLI has been successfully installed on your Linux server and the binary file is located at /opt/MegaRAID/storcli/storcli64
