Outlining the main differences between Forex VPS for Brokers & for Traders

A Virtual Private Server, more commonly known as VPS, is a remote computer that operates independently and can run software and applications just as a real computer does. A Virtual Private Server, more commonly known as VPS, is a remote computer that operates independently and can run software and applications just as a real computer does. Like with almost all personal computers and laptops, the specifications (Hard Disk, RAM Memory, CPU) of a VPS can be set according to your needs and the purpose you will use it for.

A VPS is extremely beneficial to forex traders as it provides them with 24/7 availability/operation of their trading terminals which is much needed when the user utilizes Expert Advisors for automated trading.

When we talk about forex trading, execution speed is crucial. The use of a VPS helps traders to minimize the latency between the trading terminal and the Broker’s trading server/platform. Imagine a Trader from Indonesia trading with a European Forex broker with the MT4/MT5 platform hosted in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Due to the distance and high latency between Indonesia and Netherlands, the trader will be affected by slow trades execution. Having a VPS close to the broker’s trading platform (in The Netherlands), the Indonesian trader will be able to trade and react to the market events in miliseconds!

How Forex Brokers can benefit from the VPS service and outrun competition?

As explained earlier, it is clear that the use of Virtual Private Servers is essential for any type of Forex trader (professional, institutional, hobbyists). Forex brokers can differentiate from one another by value-added services to their customers, such as the provisioning of Free or Paid Forex VPS.

NetShop ISP offers two types of Forex VPS; for Brokers and for Traders. We present to you the main features of Forex VPS that can have for Brokers and Traders.

Monitoring the uptime of your dedicated or virtual server, websites or any other web service, is essential in order to promptly act upon a potential outage that occurs.

Today, NetShop ISP is introducing Health Check – a new service tool that monitors your web services around the clock and notifies you instantly so you can respond faster to avoid long downtime and service disruptions.

The Health Check service consists of the following features:

  • Real-time Monitoring via ICMP/Ping
  • Real-time Monitoring via HTTP/s
  • Monitoring & Responsiveness Graphs
  • Tracking of past Monitoring data
  • Email & SMS Alerting
How our Health Check monitoring & alerting works

What is ICMP Monitoring

The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), widely known as Ping protocol, works by sending an echo request to a target host (by domain name or IP address) in order to verify network-level connectivity. It is useful and ideal for ensuring the integrity of routers, firewalls, switches and the uptime status of Cloud, Virtual or Dedicated servers.

What is HTTP Monitoring

Monitoring through the HTTP protocol works by looking at the HTTP Response code for a website using its domain name. If a website or web page exists, the web server will return a status code of 200, which means OK.

Why Is Important to Use Both ICMP and HTTP Monitoring

Let’s say that you have a website or web application hosted on a Virtual/Cloud server. Your website or the hosted web application may fail to respond at any given point, regardless of the server’s overall status. On the other hand, in cases that your Website is running smoothly you may be receiving alerts that the server is Down whereas it could be due to a firewall rule preventing access. Therefore, enabling both HTTP and ICMP Monitoring you ensure that all aspects of your hosting environment are being checked on different layers.

Email Alerts

To start monitoring your valuable web services takes less than a minute and requires zero technical expertise:

  1. Order ICMP and/or HTTP-based Monitoring (https://my.netshop-isp.com.cy/cart/health-check/)
  2. Enter the number of Hosts/Websites and the desired location where the Health Checks will happen from
  3. Add your server IP/hostname or your Website’s URL and you’re good to go!

For more information or if you like to monitor more than 100 Hosts please contact our Product Specialists.

Revealing the secrets of VPN: Why & When to Use VPN

A VPN (or Virtual Private Network, when it goes by its full name) is a term & a service which becomes more and more popular and trending as the online security and data privacy come under scrutiny. In very simple terms, a VPN is used to connect your PC, smartphone, or tablet to another computer (proxy, […]

A VPN (or Virtual Private Network, when it goes by its full name) is a term & a service which becomes more and more popular and trending as the online security and data privacy come under scrutiny.

In very simple terms, a VPN is used to connect your PC, smartphone, or tablet to another computer (proxy, server) which uses enhanced security and encryption measures to protect your data while navigating the Web.

How VPN Works

How Does a VPN Help Me ?

As the VPN resides outside the Internet, it helps bypassing restrictions applied to websites and online media enforced either by Government censorship or geographic restrictions and copyright regulations.

Moreover, you can use VPN if you want to:

  • Protect yourself from spying when accessing the Internet via untrustworthy Wi-fi hotspots
  • Surf the Internet with anonymity by hiding your original locations
  • Protect yourself from ISPs monitoring and logging during your internet browsing sessions
  • Watch Web TV in streaming applications that enforce geographical restrictions

Going more Technical…

When browsing the Internet without a VPN, your computer or smartphone contact the Website directly to retrieve the information & data which you are looking for. This is a 2-way communication where you (via your laptop) are sending a request and the server that hosts the Website you are browsing receives the request and responds with the required information. The so-called “prying eyes” in the Internet world can get advantage of this data exchange, at any point (yours or the server’s) to fetch information that is transmitted.

With the use of a VPN, your computer/smartphone contacts the Website through an encrypted channel; that of the VPN’s network. The VPN then is responsible for forwarding your computer’s request to the destination server/website and then handles to give you back the response/data that are sent back from the destination website.

Simply said, if you live in the United Kingdom and you browse Netflix through a VPN in the United States, Netflix will see your browsing session as coming from the USA!

Benefits of Using a VPN Explained

1. Hides your Private Information

VPNs offer up to military-grade 256-bit encryption of your data which means that no Browser, Website or App can track and log your activity.

2. Bypass Geolocation Restrictions

With the use of a VPN your Internet browsing public-facing IP Address changes. This means that media and content providers will think you are browsing a Website/App from a different location than your actual one and therefore you will be able to retrieve & access streaming media which are not available for your country.

3. Escape Data-throttling & Excess Bandwidth Charges

Some ISPs, in the majority of the Countries nowadays, will place caps on your data subscription plan so that they can maximize internet speed for their business customers. With the use of a VPN on your Smartphone your ISPs will not be able to track data consumption which means you will not be subject to a data cap!

4. Protected File Sharing

Like in all societies where crime exists, Cybercrime is a threat for any user connecting a computer or a smartphone on the Internet. The use of a VPN can help users and businesses to securely exchange files & media without worrying about the data being stolen or exposed.

Conclusion

In summary, a Virtual Private Network connection provides you with enhanced Web security, Internet browsing anonymity and freedom to Access any digital content & media. In some countries, the use of VPNs is banned and regulated so prior purchasing the service from a VPN provider, you should check the country’s laws.

Cyprus – The world’s most popular Offshore hosting location

When it comes to business and company incorporation, Cyprus ranks among the top locations for registering your offshore company. When it comes to business and company incorporation, Cyprus ranks among the top locations for registering your offshore company.

Cyprus provides many offshorecompany formation opportunities with the added advantages of having access to the European Union’s numerous economic and trade treaties. Cyprus is a traditional tax-based structure that has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the EU at 12.5%, and also offers non-resident based companies that are completely free from all local taxation.

Cyprus offers international company vehicles that are perfect for a holding or investment account or trading purposes. Companies can easily be paired with an offshore bank account whether its a local or overseas bank.

Along with a Cyprus company registration one should acquire the necessary web hosting services from a trusted and reliable Cyprus web hosting provider. The essential online services a Cyprus company must have are:

  • Website Hosting with Cyprus IP address
  • .COM.CY or .CY Domain Name
  • Business E-mail

In this article we will go through each of the above services and the importance of having them hosted with a Cyprus web hosting provider.

1. Website Hosting with Cyprus IP Address

Regardless of the sector your business operates in, it is of great importance that you have a Website to showcase information about your Cyprus company as it might be requested by your local Cyprus Bank during the account opening stage.

In the case your Cyprus company will be active in the traditional and/or online commerce sector, having a Website hosted in a web hosting company that offers Cyprus IP address is vital. As per Google’s and other search engines’ ranking factors, a Website will rank higher to the Internet users with the same Country origin as the Website’s hosting location. For example, it is more likely that a Google search by a Cyprus-based user will rank a Cyprus hosted Website higher, in results, than a similar/competitive Website that is hosted in Germany.

2. .COM.CY or .CY Domain Name

Having explained the important role of a Website’s geo-location in the Internet zone, one can understand that the same “rules” apply when it comes to your business’ Domain Name. Whether your business already has an Online presence (e.g. with a .COM domain), acquiring a Cyprus Top-Level Domain (TLD) is essential for these reasons:

  • Brand Name Protection – your business name will be registered with a .COM.CY or .CY so none of your competitors will be able to acquire it first.
  • Audience/Traffic Segmentation – in case you maintain an established global brand, you may wish to divert traffic coming from Cyprus users to the .CY version of your website. For some industries like the Online betting this is a requirement by the law.

3. Business E-mail

Along with the registration of your .CY Domain Name and the design of a Website that represents your Cyprus’ brand, a business e-mail is the 3rd internet service one should look to get up & running. Regardless of the type of Company you will be incorporating, a business e-mail based on your .COM.CY domain name is a MUST.

If you are not a Startup business then the chances are you have e-mail accounts created already. Even in this case, a dedicated e-mail address based on your Cyprus company’s domain is essential in order to keep all the information & e-mail exchanges that concern your Cyprus company in one place.

3 Top Reasons Why Host Your Server in Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Finding a reliable and flexible web hosting company is not a simple task as most people would guess. Finding a reliable and flexible web hosting company is not a simple task as most people would guess. As we speak, there are more than 330,000 web hosting companies worldwide but as the Internet usage increases in our day-to-day activities (work and personal life) users become more demanding in terms of the which (hosting provider) can serve their needs better.

The Netherlands is one of the top Internet-driven countries, with 95% of its population being online. Moreover, the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) is the 2nd largest Exchange Point in the world. An ideal web hosting location is the one that offers political and economical stability, state-of-the-art infrastructure in Data centers, and of course, pricing terms which are favorable for all types and size of businesses.

In this article, we will explain why Amsterdam (Netherlands’ capital city) is such a popular location for all of your web hosting needs.

  1. Anonymity & Data Protection
  2. High speed Connectivity
  3. Cost Effective

1. Anonymity & Data Protection

Nowadays in 2020, almost every country in the world has laws on data privacy. For example, the USA Freedom Act (formerly, USA PATRIOT Act) in the United States gives the authorities the power to seize physical servers if they are found to be violating the law.

Government surveillance is also a “hot” topic in the United Kingdom where the law allows the GCHQ (National Cyber Force Agency) to conduct surveillance that flouts privacy safeguards set out in the European convention on human rights (ECHR).

The Netherlands, on the other hand, has totally different (and more liberal) regulations when it comes to Internet usage and Data privacy. Servers inside the Amsterdam’s Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) are outside the jurisdictions of Authorities like the NSA (National Security Agency) so there is no way for your Websites and Servers being spied or taken down.

2. High Speed Connectivity

Amsterdam’s Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) is sometimes referred as “the center of the Internet”. Thanks to the Dutch regulatory framework, The Netherlands was one of the first countries in Europe that welcomed Telecommunication companies. In fact today, all the top Internet Carriers of the world have at least one Point-of-Presence (PoP) in The Netherlands.

Providers under the AMS-IX zone use 1, 10 and 100Gbit/sec Ethernet connections with 10Gigabit aggregated ports. This network infrastructure topology is sufficient to ensure that your server will enjoy ultra high Internet speed with carrier-neutral connectivity.

3. Cost Effective

Amsterdam in The Netherlands is considered as one of the best value hosting locations in Europe and also worldwide. Does this mean the hosting services offered are of lower quality than other locations? Ofcourse no.
Simply said, the less Data centers and hosting companies have to spend on Power, Cooling and Bandwidth the more affordable the prices are for the end-customers. Thanks to the green technologies and the renewable energy sources that The Netherlands utilize, Amsterdam is known as one of the world’s most affordable and quality-driven hosting locations worldwide.

3 Reasons Why Host Your Server in Singapore

In this article we will explain why location matters and 3 reasons why Singapore should be considered as a hosting location of choice.

Updated 20th December 2022

With the rising of cloud services offered by Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, one can think that server’s location does not matter.

Well, in fact, the location where a website or application is deployed at makes a huge difference. In this article we will explain why location matters and 3 reasons why Singapore should be considered as a hosting location.

Let’s say a London based business hosts its website in Germany. When a website visitor visits the website from Germany, his request to the server hosting that website will go from Germany to Germany so the latency will be very low thus the website will load very fast.

On the other hand, website visitors from Asia (e.g. Singapore consumers) trying to access the Germany-hosted website will experience a very slow loading of the website due to the increased latency caused by the routing of their request: Singapore -> Germany -> Singapore.

It is clear that our London-based business will not be able to reach customers in Asia by having a server in Germany. It is also clear that a website’s location plays an important role towards an online business’ success in reaching global customers.

Here are the top 3 most common reasons why businesses choose to host their servers, applications and websites in Singapore.

  1. Top-ranked in APAC Region
  2. Minimal Natural Disaster
  3. Secure Data center & hosting facilities

1. Top-ranked Country in Data Centers market in Asia-Pacific region

According to Cushman & Wakefield’s Data Center Risk Index, Singapore scored 84.50/100, ranking strongly for network infrastructure, diverse connectivity to the major Asia Pacific markets and its political stability. Singapore comprises 54% of datacenter capacity in the South East Asia thus attracting several data center & web hosting giants to establish a presence there. As the data creation and data storage is exponentially growing, Cushman & Wakefield Reports estimate that the Asia Pacific’s data center market will surpass the European market by 2021 with an expected volume of more than 22,845,908 Terabytes per month!

2. Minimal Natural Disaster

As per its geographic location, Singapore is located outside from the Pacific Ring of Fire which means the country is safe from a potential volcano eruption and therefore any major earthquake. In addition to that, the data center providers are investing a large amount of their budget in Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery which means that Singapore-hosted servers are well protected from any disasters may occur.

3. Secure Data center & hosting facilities

When looking for a hosting provider to host your business infrastructure, security is the main factor one should consider before making a decision. NetShop ISP’s NSSIN01 Data Center in Singapore is protected by advanced physical security systems and protocols. These include a multi-layered access system, X-ray scanner, metal detector and advanced digital CCTV network, combined with 24/7 on-site security staff.

Five signs that your team is ready to move their operations away from the office + 1 Month Free Hosting Offer

Is your office-based team running as efficiently as it could be, or is it time for a change?

Working in an office is fun! Wearing clothes that don’t need drawstrings to stay up, watercooler gossip, and – if your company is anything like ours – a constant stream of cake in one form or another. But isn’t it time that your team catches up with the rest of the job market and takes the WFH plunge? Here are five signs that your team is ready to move their operations away from the office.

1. You’re ready to save money

If there is even a shred of doubt in your mind about whether your team’s operations categorically, undoubtedly, unquestionably MUST be done from an office, you owe it to yourself to check how much money your team could save by working remotely. The total amount that can be saved by this move is much, much higher than most of us realise. If most of your communication can take place via emails, chats and calls, both your company overheads and personal expenses could be just a click away from being drastically reduced. Office rent, Wi-Fi and utility bills, and other unconsidered preventive maintenance could vanish as well as travel expenses, morning coffees, the season’s must-have fashion trends, and toiletries (just kidding – please keep your hygiene up even if working from home). One study found that if a company allowed an employee to work from home just half of the time, it would save on average $11,000 per employee, and the employees themselves would save on average $4,000 per year. That’s a LOT of petrol.

2. You want to be like Microsoft

In October 2020, Microsoft announced that they are giving their employees the option to work from home permanently, if they so choose. With the resources of a small country behind their decisions, we can be sure that they’re making the best commercial choice for themselves and their employees. Other companies that have announced extended work-from-home options include Uber, American Express, AirBnb, Indeed and Google. Is your company better than Google? Is it?

3. You don’t want to die

What? Oh right, we’re living through a pandemic! This one is self-explanatory but what we may not have considered is that there is no sign that restrictions on group gatherings will ease up any time soon. The World Health Organisation currently recommends that we maintain a distance of 2 meters from those who do not live in our households and most types of congregations have been outright banned. This is not a temporary measure. The relevant precautions that are necessary to maintaining a safe working environment for your team are costly, time-consuming and required indefinitely. Imagine all of the masks, sanitiser, extra cleaning and empty desk space that you’ll save.

4. You want to get more work done

The stats on WFH output quality are well-documented – in May 2020 Forbes reported an incredible 47% increase in productivity from workers after they were moved to remote working set-ups. According to survey data compiled from 100 million data points across 30,000 users: the average worker started work at 8:32am and ended at 5:38pm, CRM activity was up 176%, email was up 57% and the most productive days were Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Morale as expected, has reported to have improved, while the Journal of Applied Psychology found remote workers to have more job satisfaction, less motivation to leave the company, improved work-family balance, and less stress – and the remote set-up did not negatively affect the quality of workplace relationships.

5. You don’t want to become obsolete

As the next generation of employees enters the workforce, they are automatically drawn to companies with remote and flexible working options. Adjusting to the times is a necessary move for any employer with good business acumen, and in this case that means joining the rest of the organisations that are favoured by those with this best options. The best employees will have their pick of roles, and they’re certainly going to choose the option of working from home above a traditional and slowly declining office-based environment. You’d have a much larger, and much more qualified, pool of talent to choose from.
