Five signs that your team is ready to move their operations away from the office + 1 Month Free Hosting Offer

Is your office-based team running as efficiently as it could be, or is it time for a change? Working in an office is fun! Wearing clothes that don’t need drawstrings to stay up, watercooler gossip, and – if your company is anything like ours – a constant stream of cake in one form or another. […]

Is your office-based team running as efficiently as it could be, or is it time for a change?

Working in an office is fun! Wearing clothes that don’t need drawstrings to stay up, watercooler gossip, and – if your company is anything like ours – a constant stream of cake in one form or another. But isn’t it time that your team catches up with the rest of the job market and takes the WFH plunge? Here are five signs that your team is ready to move their operations away from the office.

1. You’re ready to save money

If there is even a shred of doubt in your mind about whether your team’s operations categorically, undoubtedly, unquestionably MUST be done from an office, you owe it to yourself to check how much money your team could save by working remotely. The total amount that can be saved by this move is much, much higher than most of us realise. If most of your communication can take place via emails, chats and calls, both your company overheads and personal expenses could be just a click away from being drastically reduced. Office rent, Wi-Fi and utility bills, and other unconsidered preventive maintenance could vanish as well as travel expenses, morning coffees, the season’s must-have fashion trends, and toiletries (just kidding – please keep your hygiene up even if working from home). One study found that if a company allowed an employee to work from home just half of the time, it would save on average $11,000 per employee, and the employees themselves would save on average $4,000 per year. That’s a LOT of petrol.

2. You want to be like Microsoft

In October 2020, Microsoft announced that they are giving their employees the option to work from home permanently, if they so choose. With the resources of a small country behind their decisions, we can be sure that they’re making the best commercial choice for themselves and their employees. Other companies that have announced extended work-from-home options include Uber, American Express, AirBnb, Indeed and Google. Is your company better than Google? Is it?

3. You don’t want to die

What? Oh right, we’re living through a pandemic! This one is self-explanatory but what we may not have considered is that there is no sign that restrictions on group gatherings will ease up any time soon. The World Health Organisation currently recommends that we maintain a distance of 2 meters from those who do not live in our households and most types of congregations have been outright banned. This is not a temporary measure. The relevant precautions that are necessary to maintaining a safe working environment for your team are costly, time-consuming and required indefinitely. Imagine all of the masks, sanitiser, extra cleaning and empty desk space that you’ll save.

4. You want to get more work done

The stats on WFH output quality are well-documented – in May 2020 Forbes reported an incredible 47% increase in productivity from workers after they were moved to remote working set-ups. According to survey data compiled from 100 million data points across 30,000 users: the average worker started work at 8:32am and ended at 5:38pm, CRM activity was up 176%, email was up 57% and the most productive days were Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Morale as expected, has reported to have improved, while the Journal of Applied Psychology found remote workers to have more job satisfaction, less motivation to leave the company, improved work-family balance, and less stress – and the remote set-up did not negatively affect the quality of workplace relationships.

5. You don’t want to become obsolete

As the next generation of employees enters the workforce, they are automatically drawn to companies with remote and flexible working options. Adjusting to the times is a necessary move for any employer with good business acumen, and in this case that means joining the rest of the organisations that are favoured by those with this best options. The best employees will have their pick of roles, and they’re certainly going to choose the option of working from home above a traditional and slowly declining office-based environment. You’d have a much larger, and much more qualified, pool of talent to choose from.

If you decide to reap the benefits of moving your team’s operations away from the restrictive office set-up, the easiest way to go about it is to set up a cost-saving bundle of services to ensure a smooth transition. NetShop ISP provides a perfect comprehensive bundle that is completely free for one whole month (as in genuinely free – you don’t even have to enter bank details to try it out) – so you can test out the value of the move for yourself. The Work@Home Bundle consists of everything you need to get started: a static IP address so that you can access your company’s intranet, online banking and any other IP restricted portals from home; a free 3CX PBX Telephony package for internal calls, call centre features and video/chat web meetings; 500GB Cloud Backup for any type of data or device to protect against data loss, and that can be increased on request; and a dedicated OwnCloud Server for easy and secure exchange of information. The bundle is quick and easy to set-up and install, but their friendly and experienced tech and customer service teams are always available 24/7 to assist you with any queries. [SBC News] A step beyond: How NetShop ISP can ‘outrun’ the hosting services competition

The following article has been originally published in SBC News network ( https://sbcnews.co.uk/technology/2020/10/20/step-beyond-netshop-isp-outrun-hosting-services-competition/ )

Data center and web hosting services provider NetShop ISP can only “outrun” the immense competition for clients – including those active in the iGaming industry – by taking the next step beyond the end-product’s delivery.

“Not only do we need to be ahead of the technology trends to support our customers, but we also have to compete on a daily basis with giant hosting companies like Amazon, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud,” said NetShop ISP CEO Stefano Sordini in an interview for Issue 11 of SBC Magazine (Page 48-51).

To download or read the magazine online, click HERE.

Expanding on his company’s point of difference compared with such “giant” companies, Sordini said: “We can not only survive but stay ahead of this competition by focusing on the customer’s real needs. The final deliverable to a business is a hosting environment for their website, database and application to run.

“Let’s call this deliverable ‘the product’. At NetShop ISP, we understand that anyone, including hosting freelancers and amateurs, can quickly set up a hosting company and provide ‘the product’ to customers. Yet this is not the way we manage to outrun the competition. A customer who operates in the so-demanding and dynamic online gaming industry requires more than ‘the product’.

“Nowadays, an iGaming business starts operations with a handful of people in the team who may not necessarily carry any technical expertise. Their needs go far beyond having a server to run their software. They demand pre-sales technical consulting in regards to the requirements of the jurisdiction they are applying to. The client will also require competitive pricing having gathered prices from all the hosting companies out there.

“Moreover, the hosting provider must be able to assist the client during the installation or migration of the client’s application/data and, of course, have the capacity and expertise to offer ongoing managed services and 24/7 technical support.

“Our 10+ years of involvement in the iGaming industry has given us vital know-how to support our customers on any aspect of their infrastructure and technology needs. Simply said, we beat the competition by being able to take a client’s project to the next step beyond the end-product’s delivery.”

NetShop ISP, the leading Data Center Provider is exhibiting in the SBC Betting on Sports Europe – Digital event which will take place online on the 21st and 22nd of October 2020.

Stefano Sordini, CEO at NetShop Internet Services Ltd, spoke to SBC Media in an exclusive interview about the company’s participation and his expectations from the event.

SBC Reporter: What are you looking forward to at Betting on Sports Europe – Digital 2020?

Stefano Sordini: The Betting on Sports Europe – Digital 2020 will be NetShop ISP’s first ever fully virtual conference is exhibiting in. The SBC team has brought into the iGaming industry a fantastic platform for virtual events where in these “special” times the World is going through, our industry is stepping above and finds a way to connect businesses with young entrepreneurs, operators and suppliers.

We, at NetShop ISP, are interested to attend and listen to some great Discussion Panels and catch up with industry peers. Through our virtual booth we will be happy to greet existing clients and demonstrate our portfolio of infrastructure solutions to visitors.

Nothing can compare to physical events, one might say, however it is thrilling what technology can do to help people connect with each other. Kudos to the SBC team for what they have achieved so far!

SBC: What would be your biggest bit of advice for betting and gaming businesses trying to mitigate the impact of COVID-19?

SS: The key to survive whatever impact COVID-19 has had in your business, are the Partnerships and especially the deals you make with your business’ most crucial Suppliers. It is of vital importance to have honest and transparent Partners & Suppliers with whom you can negotiate flexible terms until your business can be fully restored.

If its payment providers with whom you have target goals in Volume you have to meet each month, make sure that there will be no penalties or consequences for not meeting the agreement’s goals due to your business impact from COVID-19.

Technology suppliers can also play a very important role in helping clients and affected businesses like yours. Having acquired a large capacity of bandwidth during the pre-COVID months, means that your monthly bill may not be sustainable after the COVID-19 impact. A good partnership should be both ends. Not only when you pay your bills upfront, but in case of Crisis you should make sure that your Hosting Provider will stand next to you and provide whatever flexibility is possible until your business overcomes this situation.

SBC: What are you promoting at Betting on Sports Europe – Digital 2020?

SS: During the event we will be announcing the launch of 3 new Data Centers which, alongside our existing locations of Cyprus, Malta, United Kingdom and Los Angeles, will help NetShop ISP to reach regions across the globe. Moreover, we will be showcasing our Work@Home Bundle to the attendees of the event. It’s our most recent product launch to relief businesses that had been impacted by COVID-19 and are in the process of shifting to Home working.

SBC: What industry innovation will capture the most attention in 2020?

SS: I believe that 2020 and, going forward in 2020, there will be more focus and research on player-oriented products and features. Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are already being studied, developed and tested by Software Vendors and Development companies. The competition is so much bigger noawadays, with startups and new businesses entering the igaming market, that the traditional products will not be able to generate those profits to sustain every business in the pie. Therefore, innovation is what will keep this industry moving and allow existing businesses to profit and new ones to enter.

SBC: Which operator has impressed you the most in 2020?

SS: Which operator has shone a positive light on the industry? This might be through a product launch, commitment to responsible gambling, innovative marketing campaign, or for taking a certain stance in debates concerning the industry. As a Technology/Hosting Supplier of many iGaming Operators i wouldn’t like to naming any specific ones. I admire though all Operators who managed to diversify their portfolio of products and enhance their Customer Service given the impact of COVID-19 in our industry.

SBC: What partnership has stood out in the past 12 months?

SS: I was amazed when i heard about the acquisition deal between BtoBet and Aspire Global. The guys at BtoBet are in business for quite some time and, in my humble opinion, they grew to be among the top suppliers of the industry in Europe. This acquisition as said will help them to reach new markets which i am sure they will succeed.

SBC: Which parts of the conference agenda have caught your eye?

SS: I am looking forward to the last day’s Panel “ESPORTS AROUND EUROPE”. During the past 12 months the Euoprean countries were on a sprint to draft new frameworks for the Online gambling sector. Regulating eSports in Europe is going to be a quite challenging task for any regulatory body, so i believe that Panel is going to attract a lot of eyes out of the whole 2 days agenda.

Certificate Authorities Say Goodbye to 2-Year SSL Certificates

As of September 1st, 2-year certificates have been replaced by multi-year SSL Certificate plans. As of September 1st, 2-year certificates have been replaced by multi-year SSL Certificate plans. The only certificates that will be trusted by major browsers will be those with a validity period of 397 days or less. Why 397 days? That’s one year plus a one-month grace period for renewal.

Users will have to do a little bit extra on their end as the switchover is being made, but the trade-off is a higher level of security over the long-term.

Why Has This Happened?

Shorter Validity = Higher Security

The goal of this change is to improve security for the Internet users (organizations and consumers); the shorter the validity period of a certificate, the more secure it is.

Among advantages that come with shorter-term certificates, the following four are key and worth highlighting them:

  • A shorter lifespan for keys, which means a shorter lifespan for compromised keys, as well. With shorter certificates, you have a smaller window of exposure if a key is stolen.
  • Certificate security updates are rolled out into the wild at a much quicker pace.
  • Organizational information is updated on a yearly basis, including company names, addresses, and domains, which translates to increased user trust.
  • Automation is encouraged. With a good certificate management system in place, there is no difference in convenience between shorter and longer lifetimes. They are automatically re-issued when needed, regardless of the validity period.

How Does This Affect My Website?

This change affects only the public TLS certificates. Root Certificates as well as Code Signing Certificates (CSC), S/MIME, Document Signing Certificates (DSC), etc) are not impacted.

The main thing for Webmasters to consider regarding this change is that they will have to “worry” only about more frequent certificate expiration dates. Subsequently, webmasters and IT companies that handle SSL certificates for their end-clients must put in place proper certificate management procedures.

What Happens With Certificates Issued before 1st of September 2020?

Those Certificates issued before the 1st of September 2020 will remain valid as per their original validity period. The only time you’ll notice anything different is if they need to be re-issued. In that case, you won’t lose any of the validity time, but you’ll need to plan to re-issue again if your initial validity period is still greater than 397 days.

How Come NetShop ISP Still Offers 2-Year SSL Subscriptions?

As the SSL Certificates are under the SPP (Self-provisioned Products) umbrella, we do have the appropriate certificate management procedures to allow 2-Year Subscriptions on all the SSL Certificates. This is fully inline with the CAs; we are offering the 2-Year Subscription so you can do Costs Savings, whilst we are taking care for your SSL Certificate’s Renewal Notification on the 1-Year Due Date.

Contact our SSL Specialists for additional consulting or to sort out any questions you may have related to the SSL Validity Period Change. All our SSL Certificates with a Discounted 2-Year Subscription length can be directly purchased via https://my.netshop-isp.com.cy/cart/ssl-certificates/

A cloud backup solution protects your company’s data so you can always restore your critical business systems. However, in case of a serious outage like one caused by fire, your backup files will be safe – but it will take days or even weeks to bring the applications back online. When it comes to critical business systems and customer-facing services, each hour of downtime costs money and jeopardizes your reputation. In fact, a single unplanned downtime can cost a Small-to-Medium Business (SMB) an average of €69,346 to €215,968, according to the IDC.

Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) minimizes recovery time by quickly spinning up the systems in a cloud datacenter. That means in case of a serious outage, you can count on getting back to business quickly.

# package-cleanup --orphans

Step 3: Install the dnf in CentOS 7

DNF is the default package manager in CentOS 8. Install it by executing the following command:

# yum install dnf

Now remove the yum package manager:

# dnf -y remove yum yum-metadata-parser
# rm -Rf /etc/yum

Step 4: Upgrade CentOS 7 to CentOS 8

First upgrade the dnf package manager:

# dnf upgrade

Next, install CentOS 8 release package using dnf as shown below. This will take a while.

# dnf install http://mirror.centos.org/centos/8/BaseOS/x86_64/os/Packages/centos-repos-8.2-2.2004.0.1.el8.x86_64.rpm http://mirror.centos.org/centos/8/BaseOS/x86_64/os/Packages/centos-release-8.2-2.2004.0.1.el8.x86_64.rpm http://mirror.centos.org/centos/8/BaseOS/x86_64/os/Packages/centos-gpg-keys-8.2-2.2004.0.1.el8.noarch.rpm

Next, upgrade the EPEL repository as follows:

# dnf -y upgrade https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-8.noarch.rpm

Now, remove all the temporary files by executing the following command:

# dnf clean all

Remove the old CentOS 7 kernel core

# rpm -e `rpm -q kernel`

Then you need to remove all conflicting packages:

# rpm -e --nodeps sysvinit-tools

Thereafter, launch the CentOS 8 system upgrade as shown below:

# dnf -y --releasever=8 --allowerasing --setopt=deltarpm=false distro-sync

Step 5: Install the New Kernel Core for CentOS 8

# dnf -y install kernel-core

You are now ready to install CentOS 8 minimal package:

# dnf -y groupupdate "Core" "Minimal Install"

The CentOS 7 to CentOS 8 upgrade task has been completed! You may issue the following command to verify:

# cat /etc/redhat-release
